FileTransfer.io turns the files you need to hand over into one link. You add the files, the upload runs, and you get back a link — or you type in the recipient’s e-mail address and we deliver it for you. Nothing is installed, neither side has to sign up, and the two of you do not have to be online at the same moment: the link waits.
Everything in one go is called a data package. A package can hold as many files as you like as long as the total stays under 4 GB, and it keeps working for 21 days.
Mailboxes usually refuse attachments over 20 or 25 MB, and a video, a photo set or a design file passes that long before it is finished. A link has no such ceiling — the message stays a few hundred characters whatever the package weighs, so it goes through corporate mail filters that would bounce the file itself.
The same applies to chat apps that silently compress what you send. A download from a link gives back the original file, byte for byte, at full resolution.
| What | Without an account | With a free LimeWire account |
|---|---|---|
| One data package | up to 4 GB | up to 4 GB |
| Files per package | no limit on the number | no limit on the number |
| Downloads | 10 a day | 20 a day |
| Kept for | 21 days | 40 GB of storage, no 21-day cut-off |
| History of what you sent | — | yes |
Larger single transfers and more daily traffic are what the paid plans add; they are listed on the LimeWire pricing page. For passing one package to one person, the free column is usually all you need.
A package is reachable only through its own link, and that link is long and unguessable — it will not appear in a search engine and cannot be arrived at by typing something plausible.
What the link is not is a password. Anybody holding it can download the package, so treat it the way you would treat the files: send it to the person it is meant for rather than to a public channel. The e-mail confirming your upload contains a delete link, and deleting the package takes the files down immediately, before the 21 days are up.
No. Sending and receiving both work without an account. An account adds a history of your transfers and removes the 21-day cut-off.
No. They open the link and download the package.
4 GB in one data package, and there is no limit on how many files go into it. Paid LimeWire plans raise the ceiling well beyond that.
21 days. With a LimeWire account the files stay in your storage until you delete them.
Ten times a day. A package uploaded from a LimeWire account can be downloaded twenty times a day.
No. As soon as the device is back online the upload continues from where it stopped.
Yes. Enter the recipients’ addresses before you send and they each get a mail with the download link.
Yes. The confirmation e-mail contains a delete link, and account holders can delete from their account page.
Anything illegal where you are, and anything you do not hold the rights to. Packages reported for abuse are removed and the link stops working.
